In October, a meeting was held with the board cooperative committee members from G-W and Cedar Rapids to discuss issues with declining enrollment, budget lids, curriculum opportunities and staffing needs. Greeley-Wolbach had been approached by the North Loup-Scotia superintendent regarding their search for consolidation opportunities, and since the Cedar Rapids and Greeley-Wolbach districts are currently in an athletic cooperative, the G-W board wished to explore the possibility of further consolidation options with Cedar Rapids. As a result of this meeting and further board discussions, it was decided to enlist professional services to conduct a feasibility study to provide the communities with impartial and accurate information regarding options they might pursue.
Since the initiation of this study, North-Loup Scotia, Spalding Public, and Ord have also asked to be included in this study. NL-S has made the decision to consolidate but have not come to an agreement as to whether this merger would be with Ord or Greeley-Wolbach. Dr. Ehlers is currently using the data provided by each school district to set up scenarios on possible consolidations. He will present this information to the full boards of education and patrons on April 2, 2013 at 7:00 PM in Greeley's Sacred Heart Gym.
Information in this section provides a summary of Dr. Ehler's evidence to this point in the study.
***Information in this section lists the Educational Alternatives in which Dr. Ehlers will pursue compiling possible scenarios for consolidation. The first alternative in each section is simply a consolidation of districts' resources; the school sites, staffing, and curriculum remain the same.
